The mountain could be Mount Antola, one of the highest peaks of the Ligurian Alps, which Bentivoglio painted multiple times. Cesare Bentivoglio was an Italian painter born in Genoa in 1868 and died in the same city in 1952. He was self-taught but also studied under Antonio Varni and Giuseppe Sacheri. His favorite subjects were landscapes, seascapes (often depicting the Ligurian coast: Cinque Terre, Rapallo, Santa Margherita, Portofino, etc.), mountains, port views, still lifes, and hunting scenes. He was influenced by the Grigio School or School of Grays: a Ligurian artistic movement that, in the second half of the 19th century, renewed the approach to landscape, adhering to the anti-academic and naturalistic artistic vision then in vogue in France.
