Charming Biche by the sculptors Henri and Jacques Mathieu, circa 1960. Painted carved wood. Original polychromy. France, Bagnolet workshop. Mid-20th century. For reasons of strength, the ears of Mathieu's animals are often thick. It is said that Mathieu went to the Vincennes Zoo to observe the postures of the animals.
