Naval officer's flintlock pistol, known as "à tête de chien de mer" (dogfish head) France circa 1780
Steel, brass, wood.
Overall length: 26.4cm - Barrel length: 15cm - Cal: 13mm
Fluted barrel, then round, lightly engraved.
Flat-body lock engraved with a shell and a flower. Signed J COIGNET PUPIL.
Swan-neck hound engraved with foliage. The basin cover is decorated en suite.
Brass fittings. Sous garde serving as mouthpiece. Iron marine bridle and nailhead ramrod. Brass stock flange.
Walnut frame, finely checkered, engraved and carved with a dogfish head.
Beautiful condition. Slight pitting on the barrel.
