She was a student of Léon Cogniet and J. Paris, and exhibited at the Salon from 1842 until 1892. She won a bronze medal in 1849, in 1859 then in 1861.
On April 27, 1865, she remained single while his sister Catherine-Caroline Cogniet married Léon Cogniet in Paris. Marie-Anne Rosalie Thévenin died on February 15, 1892 in Paris, at her home on Boulevard de Magenta at the age of 72, just a few hours after the death of her sister.
The two sisters were buried on February 17 at the Père-Lachaise cemetery.
