Antoine Charles Louis, Count of Lasalle, was a cavalry general of the First Empire, born in Metz on May 10, 1775 and died in combat during the Battle of Wagram on July 6, 1809. Coming from a noble family, he enlisted very young in the royal army. Under the French Revolution, he became an officer, then took part in the Italian and Egyptian campaigns where he stood out for his audacity and his brilliant actions. Appointed colonel of the 10th hussar regiment on his return to France in 1800, he was made brigadier general at the dawn of the Napoleonic wars. At the head of a cavalry brigade which became the "Infernale", Lasalle accumulated victories against the Prussians during the campaign of 1806 - notably with the capture of the fortress of Stettin - then in Spain as divisional officer at Medina de Rioseco, Burgos and Medellín. Recalled in 1809 to take part in the Austrian campaign, after having distinguished himself once again at Essling, General Lasalle died struck by a bullet in the forehead in the final hours of the Battle of Wagram. Lasalle remains known as much for his numerous feats of arms as for his escapades of all kinds. By turns a womanizer, drinker and inveterate smoker, he demonstrated in the field a remarkable tactical sense and legendary bravery which earned him the admiration of his soldiers. His death at Wagram, at the age of thirty-four, was deeply felt by the troops and by Napoleon who declared about him: "He was an officer of the greatest merit, and one of our best generals of light cavalry. »He is today considered one of the greatest cavalry generals of his time.

Antoine-Jean Gros, Baron Gros, born March 16, 1771 in Paris[1] and died June 25, 1835 in Meudon[2], is a French neoclassical and pre-Romantic painter. He also drew two lithographs in 1817.
