Canivet The Four Seasons 18th Century
Interesting canivet showing the 4 seasons from the 18th century. In a horizontal rectangular shape, this canivet is divided into four parts and features different characters in their agricultural lives to illustrate the seasons. Picking flowers for spring, cutting cereals for summer, harvesting grapes for fall and cutting wood for winter. Beautiful frieze of leaves and pearls in frame with missing parts mainly on the surrounding frame, fortunately all of the scenes remain complete. At the bottom of the canivet appears the incomplete information of its author (re), such as: FACT ………………REGNAULT… 171. The last 3 digits being the year, we can estimate that this work was done between 1710 and 1719. The attention to detail, even if it seems a little naive, is very present, for example: the shape of the tools such as sickles, pruning hooks, but also the patterns in the clothes, the wicker of the basket or the hood , as well as the plumes of smoke coming out of the brazier. This touching and very old work remains on strong blue paper and under slightly bluish glass from the 18th century. Modern patinated frame. Dimensions at sight: 20 cm x 11 cm. Note: a lot of delicacy in this work. Very fair and non-negotiable price. Delivery: €10 for mainland France
