In good condition, with some minor patina wear that adds to its charm. Our terracotta rests on a carved and gilded wooden base decorated with a frieze of pearls (some wear to the gilding).

Claude-Augustin Cayot, born in Paris in 1677 and died in Paris on April 6, 1722, was a French sculptor.
He studied painting with Jean Jouvenet and sculpture with Etienne le Hongre. He worked for 14 years in Van Cleve's studio.
He was admitted to the Académie des Beaux-Arts in 1711 thanks to his sculpture La Mort de Didon, still strongly influenced by classical aesthetics.
