Object description :

"Provençal Walnut Cabinet From The 18th Century"
Beautiful Provençal Louis 15 walnut cabinet known as ''floral style'' featuring decoration based on plant elements specific to the region.
It is topped with a curved "policeman's hat" cornice overflowing and deeply carved with bold moldings, surmounting a pediment finely carved with foliage and flowers.
The doors are softly decorated with three rows of superimposed moldings which determine the sinuous contour of the slanted panels, a movement which matches the arch of the doors.
These moldings end in rolled volutes called "spiral decoration" characteristic of the style of Fourques (small town near the city of Arles).
We find this spiral molding on the uprights. The curved legs are rolled into volutes.
Also characteristic of the Provençal style are the number and arrangement of the iron fittings: the six keyholes, only one of which is actually functional, are intended to balance, complete and refine the entire decor.
The hinges worked in the center are of a large diameter and run over the entire height of the leaves.
Finally, we will notice the lower rail, nicely molded and sculpted with a flowered basket from which garlands of plants escape.
The interior is fitted with shelves, one of which supports three drawers.
The lock, key and interior bolt are original.
