Object description :

"David Arming His Sling - After Bernini - 19th Century Italian Bronze With Double Patina"
The work takes up the biblical myth of David and Goliath, which sees David armed with a sling face the giant Goliath. Bernini depicts David a few moments before he sends the stone that will kill the giant. The figure is represented at the moment of its twisting showing an expression of intense effort, both physical and mental. Bernini's David was sculpted between 1623 and 1624, commissioned by Cardinal Scipione Borghese for his villa in Rome. The original marble is still found today at the Villa Borghese, alongside other masterpieces by the brilliant Baroque sculptor.
