Beautiful portrait of a young woman sitting in an armchair, a window on the left opening onto a landscape. The painting is signed in the middle right and has a small accident at the bottom left, it is framed in its Louis-Philippe period frame in wood and gilded stucco which has a few accidents (bottom right and on the rush at the top to the left). The painter, Henry Scheffer (1798-1862), is the brother of Henry Scheffer and had a career as a renowned portraitist during the 19th century in Paris. This portrait is either a sketch for a larger painting, or a testimony of friendship. Without frame, the painting measures 32.5x24.5cm
