"Marotte With Paper Mache Hat, Late 19th Century"
Marotte in polychrome painted papier-mâché and glued printed paper, presenting a female figure with a bonnet and scalloped bodice.Marottes appeared in the second half of the 18th century and served as supports for headdresses when they were not worn. The shape of the cap resuming that of a real head, the headdress remained well ironed and in good shape; thus, milliners and headdress ironers frequently used caps in their work.
