"Brassaï – Signed Autograph Letter"
Autograph letter signed to his dear Babeth. New York, June 4, 1973; 2 pages in-4° on 2 leaves.Brassaï's fascinating letter to the conquest of America: "We returned so late from lunch in Paris that ultimately I only had 3 weeks to prepare my 2 exhibitions in the United States (one in the Corcoran – Museum, in Washington, June 1) so I didn't have a moment to lose. Fortunately I was able to do everything in time and the photos arrived safely (by diplomatic bag). We spent 5 really pleasant days in Washington, which is bathed in lush greenery. I especially loved George Town with its little gardens full of magnolias, clematis, azaleas and rhododendrons. We lived in a hotel opposite the White House, and the exhibition was really a success. Many people came from New York, Chicago, and even San Francisco to the inauguration, like Ansel Adams, the most famous living photographer. of America, of Carmel (near San Francisco). There was a dinner for 60 people in the museum and I sold all my photographs. (The exhibition will continue in other cities Chicago, etc.). I am writing to you from a beautiful apartment facing Central Park that a friend made available to us with 4 Spanish servants. Last night (Sunday) there was a Puerto Rican party on Fifth Avenue. It was as eventful and colorful as the Rio carnival. Around the 15th we will probably go to San Francisco (after an exhibition and the publication of the Portofolio BRASSAÏ) and also to Los Angeles to see my old friend Henri Miller again..." Ansel Easton Adams (1902-1984) famous American photographer known for his photographs in black and white of the American West and mainly of Yosemite National Park and the Sierra Nevada.
