"Victor Papeleu Tableau Ancien Marine Baigneuse Saint-raphaël Agay Coucher De Soleil Plage 19e"
Beautiful 19th Century Painting, Oil on Panel, Signed in the bottom right corner by Victor Papeleu, depicting a rare view of Saint Raphael. As dusk falls under a cloudy sky, a mother seated on a rock keeps watch over swimmers, while a group of bathers in the background leads us to the first houses of what is still a small village. In the distance, a boat departs from the shore towards the open sea, hugging the foothills of the Esterel that both conclude and define the composition. The traveling artist (from Ghent to Barbizon, Rome to Algiers) settled in Saint Raphael towards the end of his life to capture maritime views, port scenes, and the Var hinterland. Two small, millimeter-sized chips, a later black and gold-patinated wooden frame, and a gallery label on the back.
The overall condition is good, as shown in the photos.
Total dimensions: 43 cm x 27 cm,
Painting alone: 38 cm x 22 cm."
