Southern Germany (swabia), Early 16th Century, Sculpture Of Saint Anne Trinitarian H 71 Cm flag

Object description :

"Southern Germany (swabia), Early 16th Century, Sculpture Of Saint Anne Trinitarian H 71 Cm"

This very beautiful statuary group from the beginning of the 16th century represents Saint Anne, the Virgin Mary and the Child Jesus.
Called Saint Anne Trinitarian or Ana triple, this Christian iconographic theme was very popular in the West in the 15th and 16th centuries, particularly in Germany.
This sculpture has all the particularities. Saint Anne wears the veil and the wimple, a hairstyle which reached its peak in Germany in the 15th century, particularly in the works of Hans Burgkmair, one of the most important artists in Germany in the first half of the 16th century (black and white photo ).
Ste Anne wears clothes with deep, broken folds, very well designed. The narrow and elongated facial features are German features and recall Tilman Riemenschneider and Daniel Mauch with their varied repertoires of elongated facial features.
In her right hand she holds the crowned Virgin Mary, with long, richly sculpted hair. The jovial Child Jesus is held at arm's length. He has a movement full of life as he extends his left hand to try to grab the reason that Saint Anne is holding in her left hand.
This theme disappears due to the prohibitions of the Council of Trent which calls into question the role of Saint Anne and her devotion.

It should be noted the undamaged condition of this group originating from southern Germany around 1500. The wood (lime) has normal wear and marks due to time.
