German School of the 16th century (Workshop of) Lucas de Leiden (Circa 1489 - 1533) “Esther before Ahasuerus” (Bible, Book of Esther, 5 – 2 – 5) H. 88 cm L. 73.5 cm Oil on Panel . H. 88 cm L. 73.5 cm On the reverse two red wax seals, one with a coat of arms decorated with balls and a black wax seal. A red wax seal, partially preserved, includes the alliance arms of the family of 'Aix (three combs) originally from the province of Namur, lord of Denée. It is associated with a damaged shield probably comprising a quartered one with on the 1st, probably, a lion and on the 3rd a leopard lion. The Aix family contracted two alliances with wives wearing a lion. On the one hand, Simon Florent d'Aix (1645-1702), qualified as a baron, married on April 18, 1675 Isabelle de Glymes de Brabant, died in 1690. On the other hand, of Jean-Paul d'Aix, qualified as a baron , lord of Denée, captain and chamberlain of HSH the archbishop of Cologne, prince-elector of the Holy Empire in 1737 who married in Corroy-le-Château on July 16, 1737 his cousin Marie-Brigitte de Nassau-Corroy, canoness of Moustier daughter of Joseph de Nassau, Count of Corroy and Adrienne Marquise de Ghistelles-Saint-Floris, died November 22, 1741? A black wax seal seems to have three spades and could be compared to the arms of the Moniot family, including Anne Moniot, lady of Meharenne, daughter of Jean Moniot, alderman of Namur, married on June 17, 1642 the father of Simon Florent d'Aix and the grandfather of Jean-Paul d'Aix, Henri-Lambert d'Aix, sgrde Denée, died in Namur in 1652. A third red wax seal remains unidentified. Directory of the nobility of Belgium, 1911, 1st part, pp13-39.
