"horse Brace" Signed G. Calves Oil On Canvas
Artist: Léon Georges Calves
Oil on canvas "horse brace" signed lower left G. Calves for Leon Georges Calves (1848-1924). This French artist was a student of Daubigny, Boulanger and Guillemet. This animal painter exhibited at the salon from 1870, these works are reminiscent both in themes and in their quality of those of Constant Troyon. Many of his works are kept in French museums. Calves is referenced to Benezit. This work presents two horses, one of which delicately places his head on the back of the second. The scene takes place in a courtyard, perhaps a coaching inn... The palette is warm, delicate and very luminous. Frame in wood and later gilded stucco.
