"Silver Monstrance, France Around 1850 By Favier Goldsmith"
Monstrance is made of embossed silver, engraved, guilloché and chiseled with radiant decoration in the shape of the so-called “Sun”. It rests on a rectangular pyramidal base with four overhanging legs in the shape of lion's paws and acanthus leaves. Table of law with ten commandments adorns the radiant front face of the base, symbol of the Trinity on the reverse. Each of the side faces is decorated with bunches of grapes on a guilloche background. The shaft, screwed onto the foot, is composed in the upper part of a sheaf of wheat joined by a gadrooned ring and a knot decorated with reeds and wheat. The glory is made up of repelled and cut rays of light, in its center a bezel with a hinged portico on the rear face, of clouds on a guilloché background. Above rises a flowered cross. This monstrance was made during the 2nd half of the 19th century by the Parisian goldsmith Pierre-Henry Favier, whose activity began in 1846, as evidenced by the hallmarks worn on the work. 950/1000 silver, Minerva hallmarks Height: 40.0 cm Length: 19 cm Base: 12 cm with its original beveled glass.
