Born in Toulouse in 1870, he was a pupil of Jean-Paul Laurens and Benjamin Constant. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1895 to 1908 and won a bronze medal at the 1900 Universal Exhibition. He won a travel grant for the 1906 Marseille Colonial Exhibition and made several trips to Algeria and Tunisia. He also took part in the Salon de la Société Coloniale des Artistes Français in 1924.
The subject represented here is representative of the artist's early period, inspired by mythology.
