Object description :

"Eugenio Amus "barges On The Shores Of The Atlantic" "
Some beach boats accompany a huge barge - or rather a boat - almost ready for launch, which therefore already hoists the French tricolor flag. The light cast by the "coucherde soleil" would tell us that we were in late twilight, with the shadows stretching over the beach in mysterious gulfs, the Norman-style house to the right already almost completely dark, the long posts and planks of the yard that mingle with the figurines of women in traditional dress, creating a very picturesque whole. However Eugenio Amus (Brescia 1834 - Bordeaux 1899), when he painted this romantic scene had above all at heart (beyond the usual "seafaring" repertoire which was also common to other painters specialized in this) the atmospheric rendering of the light of a very particular light colourful, which still derives, in some way, from the now distant teachings of Renica which is not the light of the impressionists, but which in any case to a certain extent owes a new sensitivity to colour.
