Odette Collon (1926- 2012)
At sixteen years old Odette Collon became passionate about painting and sculpture and took lessons from the painter Ferdinand Schirren, then those of another Belgian Fauve Henri-François Raemaekers, better known under the name of Ramah. He introduced him to the Young Belgian Painting group. At twenty years old she became a member of the group and participated in various group exhibitions with intimate works in wild colors. But the adventure of “Jeune Peinture” ended in 1948. After the dissolution of the group Odette Collon temporarily stopped her career as a painter. When she began painting again a few years later, it was in an abstract style where architecture and landscapes were transformed into pruned masses, signs and cadences. During the 1990s, she experimented with different materials such as slate, paint or sand. Numerous exhibitions and retrospectives. She remained active until old age and died in Brussels in 2013.
