Model Of The French Frigate « La Gloire » – 1778 – Scale 1:90
Superb scale model of the French frigate La Gloire, depicted in her original configuration during her maiden year of service. All sails are fully rigged, with standing and running rigging, shrouds and yards complete and in excellent condition. The hull features her white-painted waterline works, accurately representing the vessel prior to June 1779 — when, like several other ships of the Royal French Navy, her submerged hull was sheathed in copper plates for protection against corrosion. This historically precise detail places the model at an exceptionally specific moment in the ship's career.
La Gloire was a classic 34-gun frigate serving in the French Royal Fleet in the late 18th century. She carried 26 twelve-pound cannons in battery, 4 six-pound cannons and 4 carronades on deck. Designed by naval construction engineer Guignace, she was launched at Saint-Malo in 1778.
The model is built to 1:90 scale, mounted on a wooden display stand with brass name plate. A distinguished decorative piece, perfectly suited to a naval, maritime or historical interior.
Condition: very good overall — full sail plan, rigging intact.
