Lucien-Victor Delpy is a French painter born in Paris on November 2, 1898 and died in Lorient on June 16, 1967. Biography[modifier | modify the code] Born in the heart of Paris, on the Île de la Cité, Lucien-Victor Delpy is the son of Georges Delpy, creator and manufacturer of Delpy duplicators in the 4th arrondissement. He comes from a paternal cousin line of the painter Hippolyte Camille Delpy (1842-1910). On the maternal side, he is the grandson of the painter Camille-Félix Bellanger of the Manufacture nationale de Sèvres. He was admitted on November 14, 1914 to the National School of Fine Arts in the workshops of Fernand Cormon, Émile Renard and Jean-Pierre Laurens, then he studied with Charles Fouqueray. He set up his workshop in Montparnasse in 1923. During the First World War, he enlisted as a volunteer in 1917 until October 1919, then he returned to the Cormon workshop. He discovered Brittany in 1924. He exhibited at the Salon des artistes français in 1922 and obtained a silver medal there in 1927 as well as the Paul Liot prize then the Dumoulin prize for Algeria in 1928. In 1929, he presented the paintings La Fin du Québec and Navire à quai, and was appointed painter to the Navy in 1931, the year in which he also received the grand prize of the City of Paris for North Africa. During the Second World War, he was sent on a mission to the front in Dunkirk in 1940, then in Cherbourg. We find him on a mission with the Rhine and Danube Army in 1945, the year he was appointed army painter. Delpy embarked on a Toulon-Saigon mission in 1950. He received the prize for French landscape architects in 1946 and the Corot prize in 1947. He was named Chevalier of the Legion of Honor in March 1954. Lucien-Victor Delpy was also sent on a mission as military painter in French Algeria in 1958 with the marines in Oranais and Nemours (today Ghazaouet). His daughter, Marine Delpy-Planque, listed 1,630 of his paintings, mainly representing Finistère landscapes and marine themes Twenty-one paintings by the artist were sold in 2013 in Quimper and 37 paintings by Delpy were sold at auction in Brest on December 5, 2015.Several of his paintings are reproduced on websites, such as the one dedicated to the painters of Concarneau or another presenting works by the painter on the theme of the Island of Ouessant
