17th Reliquary Medallion - Saint Ignatius Of Loyola - Painted Miniature

Medallion of oval shape with two faces containing on one side a miniature painted on vellum and on the other a reliquary with quills containing 13 relics (Saint Ignatius in the center). The set is closed by bevelled and faceted glasses on a molded horn frame. The painted character is Saint Ignatius of Loyola (1491-1556). He holds in his hands a book where on the left page is written the motto of the Society of Jesus: "Ad majorem Dei gloriam" ("For a greater glory of God.") and on the right page "Regulae Societatis Jesu » which is the title of the book of the rules of the Company published for the first time in 1580. Saint Ignatius of Loyola is painted on a sky and ancient architecture. 17th century work.

Condition report : fairly good general condition, wear on the edges of the bevelled lenses, some losses to the horn frame. The central relic, that of Saint Ignatius, is removed from its location. The attachment for the bail of the medallion is missing.
