"Paul Romain Chevré (1867-1914) Large Bronze "the Fight Of Cocks""
Important 19th century sculpture in bronze with bronze patina, signed on the terrace PAUL CHEVRÉ *(1867-1914) Rare and interesting model offered here in its largest version, moreover certified as the first 19th edition by the foundry stamp COLIN located under the artist's signature. Subject listed and taken from "The cockfight" reproduced in the dictionary of bronzes "Sculptors & Founders from 1800-1930" by Harold Berman on page 257 (illustration n°874). Sculpture in good general condition, dimensions: 75 cm high X 52 cm wide X 40 cm deep / weight approximately 30 kg. Paul-Romain Chevré *(1867-1914) was a pupil of Barrias and Cavelier. From 1890 he exhibited at the Salon des artistes français in Paris this plaster sculpture entitled "Le Combat de Coqs" the work was acclaimed by critics and was re-exhibited in bronze three years later then in marble around 1903.

Maison Colin is a prestigious art foundry installed at 29 rue Sévigné in Paris, from 1843. It participated in many Universal Exhibitions, including that of Chicago in 1893 where it presented a bronze clock mounted on a marble column. in collaboration with Piat and Steiner. Success also at the Universal Exhibition of 1900 crowned with a grand prize. This House has worked with many renowned artists such as Carrier Belleuse, Marioton, Rozet, etc. La Maison Colin has changed owners several times, we find the signature “Anc. Mon Colin” at the time directed around 1906-1907 by Jollet & Cie
