Raoul SERRES (1881 – 1971) Pelota game in the Basque country Etching signed lower right Justified 36/100 L: 16.0 cms x H: 21.0 cms Framed under glass Born in 1881 in Cazères-sur-Garonne (Haute-Garonne) and died in 1971, Raoul Serres is a French painter, engraver and illustrator. Pupil of Bonnat, he was a member of French Artists in 1906 and exhibited at the Salon of this group: honorable mention in 1898, third class medal in 1906, Prix de Rome in 1906. He illustrated many bibliophile books in small print runs, and was also the author of postage stamps and postcards. He has painted, drawn and illustrated the Basque Country extensively.
