"Joseph Faverot (1862-1915) - The Clowns Musicians At The Circus, Oil On Canvas Late 19th Century"
Painting representing clowns performing in a circus tent. We find them in the middle of the stage, one playing the mandolin, and the second trying to scare his comrade by shaking a fake spider above him. Humorous scene signed lower right "J Faverot" for Joseph Faverot. Painter from the end of the 19th century, having entered the fine arts fair and having attended the classes of Jean Leon Gerome. He exhibited at the Salon of French Artists from 1887 to 1900. Faverot had specialized in circus scenes at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. We owe him various scenes putting clowns in action, sometimes famous such as (Bottom, Boum Boum, Marcilly, performing at the Fernando circus and the Medrano circus. He also produced frescoes for famous cabarets (Le rat mort place Pigalle, La Ernest Lemaitre's guinguette on the Ile Fleurie de Nanterre.We also owe him the creation of posters or illustrations for newspapers of the time (Le Courrier francais, Coccorico, Le rire, la grande guerre) or even decorations shows: the magazine Montmatre Express by Albert Pajol for example, at the Divan du monde.Painting in very good condition, framed and on its original canvas.
