Born in Paris, Léon Dufrêne grew up in Tarbes. In Bigorre he was a pupil of Edmond Desca and in Paris Louis-Ernest Barrias. Celebrated especially for his sculptures of children, he fell at the age of 37 at Verdun in 1917.
