The Mandolin Player Oil on canvas by Michele Loffredo 60x46 Born October 3, 1870 in Naples, Michele Loffredo was a student of Mancini and Morelli at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples. he graduated in 1892, and went to Cairo where he stayed until 1900. He then settled in Paris, where he was advised by Jean-Paul Laurens and Jules Adler at the Julian Academy. From 1904, exhibited at the artists' fair and won several distinctions. In 1924 he was made a knight of the crown of Italy. He remained attached to his favorite themes, street scenes, portraits of personalities, and favored family scenes, maternity wards and children's games.
