This astonishing little painting with a pretty gilt frame of the time is full of mystery and represents an armada of three ships with three masted flags coming out as they approach a built coast of various buildings, towers, forts, castles, town, sporting in the same way banners at the top of these buildings, as if to celebrate the return of a victorious returning navy. In this beautiful gilt wood frame stuccoed with strips and painted on a thick sycamore panel, a presence in a nebulous atmosphere of a sky and a calm sea in grayish tones, the sepia wash with delicate sepia touches punctuates the scene very strange.
