Hanau: Rockery Snuff Box In Sterling Silver, Romantic Decor. 19th Century In The 18th Century Taste

Charming rockery box with a romantic decor.

The box is rectangular in shape, the body flared in the lower part is decorated with large rotating gadroons.
On the front, a cartouche highlighted with flowers is left blank.

The hinged lid features a romantic setting with a young man offering a bouquet of flowers to a young woman.
This decor is highlighted by a rich frame of curves, counter-curves and bouquets of flowers in the style of the reign of Louis XV.

The box is stamped:
. Very faded hallmarks, resembling general farmer hallmarks
. Weevil: French import hallmark

The presence of these hallmarks, the style and the way of this box make it quite certain that it was manufactured in Hanau, in the 19th century. This goldsmith center specializes in the creation of pieces imitating 18th century goldsmithing.
