Kagami Japanese Mirror
Kagami or Japanese bronze mirror dating from the Meiji era. One polished side serves as a mirror, the other side is decorated. Its center is adorned with the KIRI motif representing a paulownia flower, which is the second most important flower in Japan after the chrysanthemum. This central motif is surrounded by a vegetal decoration of pines and bamboos in which are represented cranes and a Minogamous turtle with a train of algae, which are symbols of longevity and good fortune. This decor is a recurring theme in Japanese iconography.
