Georges Berger was born in France in 1908. He began his artistic career as a painter of landscapes and still lifes. Over time, he focused on cityscapes, particularly those of Paris and the surrounding region. In 1947, Georges Berger founded the Strasbourg Museum of Contemporary Art. He also worked as a set designer for theater and cinema, and taught art at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Lille. In the 1950s he lived in the Abesses district where he met the painter Gen Paul who would influence his painting. He painted many views of Montmartre and its surroundings, notably the banks of the Seine. The painting that I propose to you belongs to this Montmartre period. Subsequently in 1966 he will leave for Honfleur and will die in 1976 in a great decline linked to his addiction to alcohol, leaving behind him works of art that continue to fascinate collectors and art lovers around the world.
