Morris Armchair

Armchair called Morris, Art Deco work around 1930/1940.
Armchair with its structure in beech, its rack in brass and its four positions of inclination.
The front feet have a brass ring. The fabric is not the original, there are some stains.
On the wooden structure, there are two scratches on the left armrest, and discoloration on the right armrest.
Finally a small restoration on the interior amount, which does not prevent its solidity (see photo).
The chair is very stable and perfectly solid.

The Morris armchair was invented by Englishman William Morris at the end of the 19th century. It designates a type of seat whose backrest can be tilted thanks to an ingenious rack system.
Originally, its rectilinear and refined structure, made of traditional materials, was inspired by the Arts and Crafts style. The flat, reclining and rectangular backrest is made of a series of horizontal slats. The large overflowing flat armrests extend over the back of the backrest. At their end is a rack with notches where a wooden or brass bar is inserted. The latter serves as a support for the backrest and thus allows the adjustment of its inclination. The arms are perforated with bars or vertical spindles. The front feet generally fall straight.
