This oil on panel (plywood) signed lower right Camille Merlaud represents a harvest scene in the region of Verteillac in the Dordogne Beautiful composition with this team of oxen which pulls a mower-binder; it delivers on the side the sheaves of wheat which will be collected and brought back to the farm for threshing; the team is led by 3 peasants; we are in the month of July with its strong heat under a cloudy and tormented sky in the years 1920-1930, an atmosphere that Camille Merlaud paints with a beautiful palette of colors and a technique close to impressionism. Camille Merlaud (1877-1957), self-taught painter and sculptor, originally from Verteillac in the Dordogne, painted many landscapes of the Périgord countryside as well as scenes of rural life, often in an impressionist style. He exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants in Paris and participated in fairs in Holland and England.
