"Large Portrait Of A Man Signed "nouviaire 1837" XIX"
Oil on canvas representing a man with short hair and blue eyes dressed in a black coat, a brown waistcoat and a black tie. Signed upper left Nouviaire and dated 1837. *François Nouviaire 1805-1837 Painter of history and portraits, 3 rue des Boucheries, born in Stenay (Meuse) in 1805, pupil of M. Ingres. He made several portraits, including his own, exhibited at the Salon in 1827; Those of the Marquis de Guerny and the pilot Trementin. The latter is with the minister of the navy. Dictionary of artists from the French school in the 19th century by Charles Gabet, 1834 This portrait is presented in its period wooden and gilded stucco frame which retains its original gold leaf gilding in very good condition ( some old times) Original canvas and frame, trace of the manufacturer's stamp on the canvas.
