Oil on canvas representing a man with short hair and blue eyes dressed in a black coat, a brown waistcoat and a black tie. Signed upper left Nouviaire and dated 1837. *François Nouviaire 1805-1837 Painter of history and portraits, 3 rue des Boucheries, born in Stenay (Meuse) in 1805, pupil of M. Ingres. He made several portraits, including his own, exhibited at the Salon in 1827; Those of the Marquis de Guerny and the pilot Trementin. The latter is with the minister of the navy.
