Portrait of Louis XV at the age of five, oil on canvas by a painter of the entourage or a follower of Pierre Gobert.Represented in the manner of a child Jesus or Jean-Baptiste, Louis XV is seated on the cushion of what seems to be a duchesse brisée, he is holding the medal of the Order of the Holy Spirit and his blue ribbon. Son of the sculptor Jean II Gobert, Pierre Gobert (1662-1744) was received at the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture on December 31, 1701 as a portraitist. He became one of the official painters of the aristocracy of the Court at Versailles, at the end of the reign of Louis XIV, sometimes representing his models in the guise of mythological figures. Pierre Gobert is also the official painter of the Court of Lorraine.
