Object description :

"Important Writing Dresser In Mahogany, Restoration Period - Early Nineteenth"
Large character dressing table in solid mahogany and burl mahogany veneer. Richly sculpted, the tall unit consists of a large rectangular and pivoting mirror. This one is surrounded by a miter-cut frame, raised scalloped moldings and an inward flowing cutout. This original mercury mirror bears the traces of time. It is crowned by a pediment composed of a large shell accompanied by foliage and surrounded by an important structure in sculpted solid mahogany, allowing it to be rotated thanks to beautiful chased bronze butterflies. The base of this element features two large griffin heads facing each other, holding a garland of flowers in their beaks. The sculptures of this ornamented entourage resemble ropes accompanied by foliage. In the lower part, this rare piece of furniture is topped with white Carrara marble, rectangular and hollowed out in a bowl, with rounded corners. Its perimeter has a double half-round with hollow. The mahogany burl veneer belt opens with a large drawer equipped with an original lock and key in working order. Inside, we discover storage compartments on the sides and in the center, a dark sliding shelf in camel leather with a golden sticker and a large concealed space underneath. This dressing table is also remarkable for its sculpted solid mahogany legs. The two front legs impress with their curved shape and large acanthus leaves. The back feet are straight. The set overhangs a solid and animated base veneered in an open book, emphasizing the symmetry of the veining. Its fine workmanship and sculpted ornamentation will delight connoisseurs looking for unique and charismatic furniture. ******** Period: Early 19th century Excellent condition.
