Object description :

"Renaissance Chalice, Southern Netherlands Circa 1600-1630, Sterling Silver And Vermeil"
Sumptuous mass chalice in solid gilded silver.
The foot is in the Renaissance style and dates from the beginning of the seventeenth century(1600-1630). It is decorated with typical engravings for the time. Each part of the polylobed foot is engraved with a different scene. The umbilicus of the foot is engraved with the crucifixion and Saint Veronique holding the Holy Shroud. The baluster of the foot, the cuppu and its décoration are probably from a later period. Judging from their style, they date from the end of the seventeenth century or the very beginning of the eighteenth century (1680-1720). The thick vermeil in good condition that covers the entire chalice probably dates from the nineteenth century. The shape and stylistic characteristics point to the Mosan basin as the manufacturing region of this beautiful object. It weighs 580 grams.
