Object description :

"Pair Of Portraits By Descours Son 1782"
Couple of aristocrats from the French province by Descours fils in 1782.
Monsieur wears a velvet jacket on which are sewn beautiful iron buttons, a pretty embroidered waistcoat as well as beautiful lace.
Madame wears a very high hairstyle popularized by the ladies of the court and detail charming a bracelet with a medallion representing the miniature portrait of her husband. She also wears pretty regional jewelry. She stands near a carnation in a vase, a symbol of love and fidelity.
The paintings are signed Descours fils and dated 1782. Little is known about Michel André Descours (1741-1814) except that he was a portrait painter and was active in the second half of the 18th century. His father Michel-Hubert Descours (1707-1775) was a portrait painter based in Bernay in the Eure in Normandy. His son probably painted the aristocrats and notables of the region following his father.
Very good general condition, period canvases, stretchers and frames in carved gilded wood.
Frame 83x68 cm
