the Jarai live mainly in the central highland provinces of Vietnam.. Gia Lai and Kon Tum.. their language belongs to the Malayo-Polynesian group of Austronesian languages. as they have no written history. little is known before the arrival of the French in the 19th century.. this long loincloth for men is a rare and unusual piece. woven on a webbing loom in a single continuous strip of heavy-duty cotton. the fabric is dyed a deep indigo. bordered on each side with red white blue and green stripes.. it is very neat quality workmanship. on each side .. a finely woven band finished with a row of Jobs' tears and long fringes ..

dimensions: 480 cm in continuous length (excluding fringes) . 30 cm wide women have everything . .

they have a matrilineal family system. that is, the lineage passes through the mother and not the father. the men earn the bread of the family but the women own the property. the cattle . the food . the House . the right to inheritance is reserved for daughters and in priority to the youngest. married men live with their wives' families and have little control over family affairs . .
