Superb and large painting representing a Breton procession in Carnac, probably a Breton pardon.

This composition is signed by the Norman painter Léonard Bordes (1898-1969).
The fawn colours are very beautiful. I think this is one of the painter’s finest works.

This oil on cardboard in very good condition is sold with a frame to restore.

Dimensions: 67 x 48 cm
Dimensions with frame: 79 x 61 cm

Antoine Léonard Jean Vincent Carlos Bordes born 14 May 1898 in Paris 6th and died 4 February 1969 in Rouen is a French painter and lithographer of the Rouen School.
Encouraged to focus on painting by Jacques-Émile Blanche, a friend of the family, Léonard Bordes, who admires Théodore Géricault, is a student of Philippe Zacharie at the École des beaux-arts de Rouen,
In the 1930’s he frequented the port of Fécamp where, in order to paint on the motif, he rented a modest studio for his family. His painting caught the attention of Othon Friesz and Maurice de Vlaminck, who asked him to visit his Rouen studio.
He was a founding member and vice-president of the Société des artistes indépendants normands in 1938.
Léonard Bordes has produced many works during his career, from painting to oil and watercolor to engravings and lithographs. His favorite subjects include landscapes, cities and ports, as well as scenes from everyday life. He was also known for his talent for representing animals.
