Sailboats in port, Vence 1955, gouache on paper by Raphel Arnal, (1906-19663), expressionist Provençal artist, born in Languedoc, who went through the Beaux-Arts in Montpellier. He will exhibit in Montpellier, Avignon, Salon de Provence, Paris then for 14 years in Marseille, in the district of La Pintade, often represented in his work, and finally in Vence and Antibes during the last years of his life. He is a great friend of Max Jacob with whom he exchanges an important correspondence which will subsequently be published by the magazine Massilia. A complex personality of modern art, his painting is imbued with a strong expression and intense colors, as here in this view of the port. Painting framed under glass.
