Object description :

"Reliquary Kota Mbulu-ngulu"
Reliquary figure Kota Mbulu-Ngulu from the 1940s. This characteristic ancestor figure composed of a wooden core and brass plates, originating from Gabon, was widely collected in the 1930s for its refined appearance and its great evocative power. . These figures are sometimes two-sided, and this one has the particularity of offering on its reverse a sketched face and not the symbolism of a sex. Its large size indicated at the time of the cults a strong ritual importance but which was, in this case, certainly carried out with a decorative objective.
