Sculptor and Jesuit brother based in Le Puy-en-Velay, this head of Christ by André Besqueut was produced by the Parisian editor of religious bronzes, Duffour. Besqueut was a pupil of Jean-Antoine Cubisole, like him a native of Haute-Loire (Cubisole was a pupil of the School of Fine Arts in Lyon and worked in Lyon and then in Le Puy-en-Velay). The Crozatier museum in Le Puy-en-Velay has many works by Besqueut, but not this touching effigy of Christ.
