Son of a metal caster, he was born in Paris, France. In his early years, he completed an apprenticeship in jewelry making, perfecting the techniques of casting, engraving, and embossing semi-precious and simulated stones in gold and silver. During its decades of creating fine jewelry, Goossens has mixed the genuine stones with the counterfeits, a mixture of artificial precious stones with the semi-precious ones for clients such as Coco Chanel, Cristóbal Balenciaga, Yves Saint Laurent, Madame Grès, Christian Dior and others. Design aesthetic: Goossens' designs were heavily influenced by paintings and artefacts in Parisian museums, most often drawing inspiration from Maltese, Byzantine and Renaissance works. Over the years he traveled widely, frequently bringing back stones such as sapphires, amethysts, rubies, coral and chalcedony. Regarding rock crystal, after restoring a cross belonging to Madame Chanel, stone became her favorite material. It is a clear and colorless variety of quartz. Goossens was the first to encrust it in jewelry; he felt that its delicate and inexpensive attributes suited well for costume jewelry. He also used bronze, shells, beads, colored rock crystal and, as mentioned, natural rock crystal in designs for necklaces, brooches, bracelets and earrings. From Wikipedia.
