Beautiful orientalist work finally produced by the Italian painter Giulio Carlini which represents a man smoking a hookah .
The artist was able to perfectly transcribe the sheikh's facial features.

Giulio Carlini is an Italian painter and photographer.
Pupil of Politi and Lipparini at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice around 1845-1850, Giulio Carlini later married Carlotta Mola di Mendrisio.
Official painter of the Kingdom of Italy, he obtained the highest distinctions: adviser to the Academy of Fine Arts of Venice in 1873, Knight of the Crown of Italy in 1874, academician of the Academy of Fine Arts of Venice and the Academy of Raffaello Sanzio d'Urbino in 1879.
He exhibited in Venice from 1847 to 1887, in Neustrelitz in 1873, in Vienna in 1882 and in Munich in 1883.
A talented and critically acclaimed painter, Giulio Carlini s is distinguished by its official portraits and historical scenes. This allowed him to subsequently obtain numerous private commissions in Italy and abroad.
During a period, he devoted himself to orientalist painting in vogue in the 19th century: he then produced market scenes, portraits and orientalist genre scenes.
We can compare him to the Italian painters Favretto and Ciardi for his genre painting. Moreover, he was inspired by the ancient painters he admired: Bellini, Veronese, Titian and Tintoretto, in composition and colors.

His works are now kept in Italian museums and in private collections abroad.

Dimensions: 63 x 51 cm without frame and 74 x 63 cm with its gilded wooden frame.
