Superb portrait around 1890, representing a woman in a large red hat, seated and drawing. It is probably a self-portrait of our artist. Mary Maitland Govan was born in 1854, British painter and referenced as a painter of portraits and still lifes. On the back of the canvas, inscriptions in ink. "Govan, 66 Hannover Street, Edinburgh. dimensions of the canvas alone, 61.5 cm x 51 cm. Modern frame of 75 cm x 65 cm. I note in the back of the chair a small hitch to be restored.
