Marseille Market / Van Den Bussche
Artist: Fernand Van Den Bussche 1892/1975
Student of Fine Arts in Lille, he was mobilized in 1914. Prisoner in the Baltic, he joined his refugee family in Marseille. The love at first sight with the city will be immediate and Van den Bussche will not stop painting the Phocaean city and its surroundings, in full paste and with a knife for a clientele that remains attached to him. His favorite themes are of course seascapes, tartanes, and pine, the emblematic tree of the Provençal coasts. They place him in the same pictorial current as his contemporaries Mattio, Hurard, Bonamici. Mentioned on the back "Small market in Marseille". Good recent setting.
