"Large Virgil Lithograph Signed By Jean-auguste-dominique Ingres"
Extremely rare lithographed print entitled "Tu Marcellus Eris" engraved in 1832 by Charles Simon Pradier (1783-1847). The original work is painted by Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres in 1812 present at the Musée des Augustins in Toulouse under the inventory number RO 124. There is a similar work painted by Ingres around 1820 and present in the collections of the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium (INV 1836). The print that I propose to you is signed in the margin by Ingres himself. Provenance: direct succession of the great French architect Victor Baltard (1805-1874). Friend of Ingres, this work was offered to him by the painter himself. The Ingres-Bourdelle museum in Montauban is familiar with this print and has several copies (unsigned). The work measures 80x63cm without frame and 100x80cm with the period gilded wooden frame.
