Traditional wooden wedding horse (Ghodi), probably Rajasthan, India, first half of the 20th centuryDecorated with stamped brass ornaments, the body in solid wood, the head in brass or bronzeWhite horses, usually mares, are part of the Indian wedding procession (known in Hindu and Sikh traditions as baraat). Even today, brides and grooms often travel to their wedding on horseback, although for practical reasons it is increasingly common for them to arrive by car. After dismounting, the horse performs complex dances, such as jumps etc. A replica of the horse is then presented to the bride's family.
